Instructor Kevin Elliott - SonBae Nim

Inst. Elliott has been training with the Club since it was founded in October, 2005. When Head Instructor Spoehr graduated in 2008 he appointed Kevin as President of the Club in recognition of his dedication and determination practice and spread the art of Hwarangdo.  Kevin frequently trains one on one with Instructor Spoehr in Jacksonville and will be beginning the difficult test for Tae Soo Do black belt this Spring.

Instructor Nathan Young - SonBae Nim

Instructor Nathan Young began his training in Fall 2005.  He joined class for the first time in the middle of a raging downpour and continued to practice with the same intensity for the next two years.  He served with distinction as the club's first student instructor (SonBae Nim) until his graduation in 2007 with a Bachelor degree in both English and Philosophy as well as a minor in Biology.

Instructor Spoehr in Butterfly StanceInstructor Spoehr has trained in Hwa Rang Do since 1994 and taught since 1999.  His first teacher was Master David Kijek of Madison, Wisconsin and he is currently taught directly by the Supreme Grandmaster of Hwarangdo Dr. JooBang Lee.  During his freshman year of college he served as Head Instructor to the Hwarangdo Club at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and upon transferring in his sophomore year he founded our club here at Florida State.

There is a seminar held at Florida State each semester by Inst. Spoehr.  Subjects that may be covered include kickboxing, grappling, eight directional movement, knife techniques, meditation, and joint manipulation.  Questions on the philosophy of Hwarangdo are always welcome.
