There are three levels of study within the martial Art of Hwa Rang Do. As one progresses through these levels he/she gains an deeper understanding of both martial skills and the virtues of personal responsibility, leadership, and self-control. - "Way of the Warrior Spirit"
In Tae Soo DoŽ you will realize the confidence of knowing how to defend yourself on the ground or on your feet while also increasing your mental discipline and capability for self-reliance. Tae Soo DoŽ is an effective and safe way to achieve physical and mental well-being and perhaps your first step to becoming a true, traditional martial artist.
Hwa Rang DoŽ - "Way of the Flowering Knights"
Our history begins in 540AD on the Korean peninsula with the nobility of a small country called Silla. Concerned with the future leadership of his nation, the king of Silla decried that all noble, male children of promise be recruited into government service and taught the arts of literature, dance, poetry, horsemanship, philosophy, science, and war. They were known as the "Hwa Rang" the Flowering Knights, and due to their physical and mental strengths, these Hwa Rang warriors eventually led Silla's armies to victories which united all of Korea and parts of Manchuria for the first time in history. The philosophy of the Hwarang, along with their martial and healing skills survived over the centuries, passed from master to student down to modern times, and in 1960 Dr. Joo Bang Lee brought this system back to the public when he began teaching in Seoul, Korea. Now in 2009 Hwa Rang DoŽ has spread throughout the world, from Rome to Tallahassee, without losing its name, code of ethics, or traditional etiquette. Hwa Rang DoŽ is the most comprehensive martial art in the world, it covers grappling, kicks, hand strikes, traditional forms, 20 categories of weapon skills, meditation, healing, falling and tumbling, joint manipulation, and pressure points. It is a Martial Art in the true sense, not a sport, and because its techniques can cause so much harm an understanding of their proper moral use is taught simultaneously through the philosophy of Hwa Rang DoŽ. This philosophy is summarized in the Hwa Rang DoŽ "Meng Sae," or Code of Ethics, and is repeated at the end of every class. Hwa Rang DoŽ
